Ran 5 miles in the hot sun after a day of smoking and not doing much. I am getting in much better shape as the heat must be hell on my muscles. I am able to take it and push through.

Ran this in the hot 112 degree sun ! I felt like this was a great indication of running in the heat with a high heart rate. I need to add in a mid week long run to better prepare.

Weekly Distance: 3 miles
Training Distance: 90 Miles
Time: 27:27

Distance: 9 Miles
Weekly Distance: 18 Miles
Training Distance: 87 Miles
Time: 1 Hr 40 Minitues
Pace: 11:06
Max HR: 174
Average: 159

It was a hot, long, and weary run. I took 5 min rest after 30 min, 5 min rest after ever 20 min afterwards. I managed to finish the run after not doing a long run last week due to ankle soreness from running on the beach. The walking breaks really help along with energy gels to push me through. I feel as though I am back on track on my training.

Week 5 of 18 Day 3

July 14th, 2007

7:00 am

Distance: 3 Miles
Weekly Distance: 9 Miles
Training Distance: 78 Miles
Time: 28:43

Much better run after a couple of days rest. July sucks in Arizona to run in.

Distance: 3 Miles
Weekly Distance: 6 Miles
Training Distance: 75 Miles
Time: 35:30 OUCH
Pace: Who cares
Max HR: 174 !!
Average HR : 159

As you can see, running when the tempeture is 115 degrees outside brings you to your knees. I went through 1.5 liters of water, worked harder than I am used to and looked like I came in from the rain when I was done.

Week 5 of 18 Day 1

July 10th, 2007

5:15 AM

Distance: 3 Miles
Weekly Distance: 3 Miles
Training Distance: 72 Miles
Time: 28:52
Pace: 9:38

Nice run after my ankles have felt better. Not as swollen and feel much better. Will go for distance this week.

Week 4 of 18 Day 4

July 7th, 2007

8:00 AM

Distance: 3.5 Miles
Weekly Distance: 13 Miles
Training Distance: 69 Miles
Time: 30 Min
Pace: ?
Max HR: 175
Average: 152

Ran on the Mexican beach of Rocky point. I'll never run on a beach during training again. Going through the sand at an angle, and having to constantly look out for jelly fish was not my ideal running conditions. It was windy and hard to run. It would not be so bad, but the next morning my ankles were very raw and swollen. I did not run a long run to prevent injury and aggravation.

Week 4 of 18 Day 3

July 5th, 2007

5:30 AM

Distance: 3 Miles
Weekly distance: 10 Miles
Training Distance: 66 Miles
Time: 27:20
Pace: 9:06 sec
Max HR: 162
Average: 152

Very tough run this morning as I ate mostly crap yesterday and smoked a half pack of cigarettes. I almost puked this morning and was coughing up phlem due to my lungs having a very hard time keeping up. My body is in better shape than my lungs. Need to quit to save my self the aggravation, plus it is less work for me.

Lesson to self, smoking sucks, addiction is a bitch.

Week 4 of 18 Day 2

July 4th, 2007

6:30 AM

Distance: 4 Miles
Weekly Distance: 7 Miles
Training Distance: 63 Miles
Time: 36:14 Sec
Pace: 9:03 Sec (New PR)
Max HR: 158
Average: 150

A better run this morning. Maybe because it's a holiday and got to sleep more. I felt good, but I need to quit smoking. The 4 cigarettes I had last night really stick to my lungs. My Marathon pace is 9:43 to get under the 4 hour 15 Minitue Mark, so I need to be able to keep this pace up for at least 6 miles or more. I am aiming to have a 9 Min mile for the 1st 10 miles. But we'll see

Week 4 of 18 Day 1

July 3rd, 2007

5:30 AM

Distance: 3 Miles
Weekly Distance: 3 Miles
Training Distance: 59 miles
Time: 27 Min 34 Sec
Pace: 9:11 Min/Mile (NEW PR)
Max HR: 174
Average HR: 148

Nice run this morning. Really pushed myself to go faster, and what do you know a new PR ! If I can get down to about 8:30 per mile for 5 miles. I think I'll do really well. What's really nice is that my HR stayed around 150 and I know I can keep it at a steady pace of 164 or so. I think I'll try to keep this same pace tommorow with my 4 mile run.

I always seem to daydream during my runs about stuff that is theoretically impossible. I usually daydream that I'm the shortest point guard in the NBA who shoots 80%. Am I the onlly one who does this ?

Week 3 of 18 Day 4

July 1st, 2007

7:30 Am

Distance: 8 Miles
Weekly Distance 18 Miles
Training Distance: 56 Miles
Time 1 Hr 25 min
Pace: 10:37 Per Mile
Average Speed 5.8 MPH
Max HR: 174
Average: 145

Weight: 152.5 Pounds

Well, my GPS broke and had to rely on conventional methods of running distance (google), so I can't say how accurate this one was. I am getting used to running in the heat and hope that the struggle is worth it when the cool weather comes along. I was only scheduled to go 6 miles, but I felt great and kept going. I took a few breaks, but nothing more than 2 minitues.

My training is going very well I might add, I feel thinner and my legs are responding very well.
